Printmaker Diane Tomkinson grew up on a wooded bluff above Puget Sound, which set her course of interest to the forest, sea and wildlife, frequent subjects of her work.  Her printmaking images range from representational relief prints to abstract monotypes, and employs her love of painting with paper preparation and lyrical images.  Tomkinson works with highly organic handmade papers and botanical materials.  As a second-generation woodcarver, she enjoys carving and leaves purposeful carving marks as part of the image. Tomkinson has made a lifelong study of birds, particularly raptors and corvids. She says the wonderful thing about printmaking getting to do all that she loves: drawing, carving, painting, and printmaking.
