I delight in rural farm life. To me it’s the best possible way to live. But not everyone can or wants to live on a farm or in the country. That’s where my art comes in. I paint my vision of what rural farm life embodies: animals, birds, crops, fresh air, fragrant grass and of course, red barns. All of these things ground me and make me whole. With my art, it’s my goal to share my connection to this pure, simple lifestyle. My style of painting has grown out of my background as a fine artist, graphic designer and illustrator. My paintings “break the rules” by combining illustrative realism with naive simplicity. I use rich, bright oil or acrylic pigments in combination with strong simple composition. My favorite subjects are animals, birds and plants found in agricultural settings. I enjoy taking my subject, whether it is a cornstalk, rooster or cow and making it seem “larger than life.” I lift the subject above the ordinary and transform it into art through color and design. |
